We made two day trips to the Cape to two different beaches. The first beach was West Dennis Beach on the Nantucket Sound. The water was warmest in this area and there were small waves but there was a lot of seaweed.
The second beach was Corporation Beach on Cape Cod Bay. This beach was wide and beautiful and had calm water that was perfect for the kids. The water was cooler and the kids had fun playing in the tide pools.
We only had one rainy day so we hung around the house, visited the library, and did a little shopping. For dinner we went to Wareham and ate at a cute little place overlooking the water and enjoyed a beautiful rainbow once the rain stopped.
We squeezed in a third beach day at Ellisville Harbor Beach which is only five minutes from their house. We had to hike about a mile to the beach and were rewarded with a secluded and beautiful beach with views of Cape Cod in the distance! Look for the rock in the picture that looks like a shark. I fooled every family member with that picture except one person, Jeff's brother who was a fisherman and saw actual great whites from his boat. This is one of my favorite places in Plymouth.
One of the highlights of the trip for the kids was riding their bikes on the Cape Cod Canal path. This path was paved, flat, and had beautiful views.
Towards the end of the week we headed towards the border of MA and RI and visited Allen's Pond Wildlife Sanctuary. We took a small hike that followed the coast, did a small rock scramble, and then looped back next to a freshwater pond. This place was beautiful and I hope to come here again one day. After our hike we went to a nearby restaurant and I had my first lobster roll. No one told me it would be cold! I think I've decided that I like cooked and seasoned lobster better but this roll had really fresh meat an a ton of it.
