National Christmas Tree Lighting

This year I entered the lottery for tickets to the National Tree Lighting Ceremony and I won!  I was extra excited that they were for seated tickets instead of standing room only tickets.  We had five tickets so the four of us went plus my mom.

We got there around 3:30 and waited for the ceremony to start at 5:00.  The kids stayed occupied with snacks and drawing pads.  We couldn't see the stage that well (the really close seats were for VIPs) but we were right next to a big screen showing everything that happened.

We were able to see the White House to our left and could tell when the President was leaving to come because the motorcade pulled out from in front of the mansion.  Our favorite performers were Nico & Vinz.  Tom Hanks and his wife were the hosts.

One neat part of the show was at the beginning when a radio personality was interviewing kids about Christmas and asked, "What does Christmas mean to you?"  The kid answered, "It is all about the birth of Jesus!"  The interviewer didn't know how to respond but there were quite a few people in the crowd (including us) who cheered and clapped.

It was a great way to get in the Christmas spirit and I hope to go again!  We have been listening to Christmas music a lot this month and Logan will often say, "Hey, we heard this song at the tree lighting!"
