Family Vaction in Ocean City

Our family said goodbye to summer by doing one of my favorite things...going to Ocean City, MD!  I have gone there almost every year at the end of summer for the last 6 years and was excited to have Jeff and Logan join in on the tradition this year.  Two days before we were set to leave I found out that my sister didn't even know that we were going.  One day later, they booked a hotel room and were packing also.

Jeff, the kids, and my parents arrived on Friday midday and headed right to the beach.  I was thrilled to find out that both of the kids loved the sand and waves and we spent almost 3 hours there the first day.  After settling into the hotel and naptime, we met up with my sister and her family and headed down the boardwalk towards a restaurant for dinner.  We dined at a restaurant above the boardwalk and had a great view of the beach and sunset.

On Saturday we had another fun beach day.  Emma wasn't as thrilled about the water as Kira and Logan, but we still had a good time.  The weather was great all weekend but very windy on Saturday.  That evening we ate at the seafood buffet at Phillip's.  Kira liked anything that was fried and Logan was a fan of crab cakes, crab meat, and saltine crackers.  Ha!  After dinner we went to play mini-golf, one of Liane's favorite beach activities.  Kira and Logan had some help from me and Papa, but they loved their first experience with mini-golf.  Logan was pretty cute every time he said, "Min Gof."  The last two holes were cut short by dark and ominous clouds heading our way.  However, it never did rain so we decided to drive down to the end of the boardwalk where the amusement park is.  The kids had a fun time riding on some rides and I had the pleasure of stepping into a stranger's pile of fresh vomit with my flip flop.  Gross.  The rain eventually showed up and succeeded in soaking us as we walked back to the cars.

On Sunday we said goodbye to Liane, Jeremy, and Emma who had to get home before Monday.  We had another great beach day.  Jeff and I dug a big hole with a ditch leading to the ocean.  The kids had the greatest time standing in the hole and waiting for a big wave to come and fill up the hole.  That evening we found another restaurant on the beach that had a fun atmosphere, a great view, and yummy pizza.    The kids rode some more rides and then took a short walk on the beach in the dark, looking for crabs.  Kira was terrified of the sand crabs at the OBX last year but had no fear this year and was trying to catch them.

On our last day of vacation we woke up and got some fresh doughnuts from The Fractured Prune.  These are similar to the ones from Duck Donuts but not as good.  The kids still enjoyed them though!  We then rented a 6 person surrey to take a bike ride on the boardwalk.  The weather was a little cooler and it was a beautiful morning for this.  The kids loved sitting in the front basket (and received a lot of smiles and awww's) from passerby's.  I kept sliding off of the seat and my mom claimed that her foot hurt so my dad and Jeff did most of the pedaling.
