Outer Banks Vacation

In July we spent a wonderful week at the Outer Banks, NC. We decided to head to the southern beaches and rented a semi oceanfront house in Hatteras.  There were fewer activities and restaurants down that way but there were also fewer people!

Our House

The house from "Nights in Rodanthe" (house with blue shutters) was near us, it was moved to a safer location after the movie because it was in danger of falling into the ocean.

We went to the beach with my parents, aunt and uncle, two cousins and their families.  Kira and Logan were the youngest kids and were therefore on different schedules, but they still had fun playing with the bigger kids.

We saw three lighthouses (Kira climbed the tallest one on the East Coast!), went out for ice cream a couple of times, and I even got to do Karaoke with my cousins one night.

Kira is a fan of Dairy Queen!

This ice cream drove down our truck each day and played Christmas songs (no clue why)

The highlight of the week for me was Kira learning how to swim!  She still has to build up her endurance, but she has gotten the hang of it and is getting better each time we go to the pool.

Kira and Logan preferred the pool over the ocean but they did like playing in the sand and collecting seashells.  I really think the seashells and ghost crabs are bigger down near Hatteras.

One day we took the car ferry to Ocracoke Island.  The kids loved riding on the car ferry and we spent some time exploring the quaint island.

Here are some of my favorite posed shots from the week:
